Green Ball Tennis Term: Step Up, Rally On!

Welcome to our 10-week Green Ball programme, designed for players ready to move up from Orange onto the full-size court. With the green ball’s higher bounce and faster pace, this is where players build the strokes, footwork and match skills that will carry them into competitive tennis. Every session blends focused coaching with games, challenges and plenty of laughs, so players improve without even realising they’re working hard.

By the end of the term, your child will have a more powerful and consistent set of groundstrokes, a reliable serve, and the tactical awareness and confidence to play and score a full match.

What we’ll cover

Week 1: Forehand. Developing a stronger, more consistent forehand with topspin, depth and direction, using target games, rally challenges and team competitions.

Week 2: Backhand. Building a dependable backhand, whether one or two-handed, through partner games and drills that turn it from a weakness into a weapon.

Week 3: Serve. Developing a full serve with better technique, rhythm and placement, plus second serve practice and serving contests to build confidence under pressure.

Week 4: Net Play. Volleys, overheads and sharp reactions. Expect high energy and plenty of friendly net-rushing battles.

Week 5: Matchplay. Putting it all together with set-style matches, proper scoring and good sportsmanship, as well as learning to manage nerves and keep a positive attitude.

Week 6: Tactics. Learning to think like a player: playing to patterns, using the full court, targeting weaknesses and making smart decisions point by point.

Week 7: Attacking. Taking control with aggressive play, strong approach shots, setting up winners and finishing points at the net.

Week 8: Defending. Staying in the point under pressure with recovery shots, lobs, slices and a resilient mindset, because great defenders frustrate opponents.

Week 9: Trading. Learning to rally with purpose by building points, changing pace and spin, and knowing when to switch from defence to attack.

Week 10: Matchplay. A celebration of progress, with matches and games that show how far everyone has come, applying all the tactics and skills from the term.

Our approach

Every session is built around fun, game-based coaching. Players are active throughout, with small groups, positive feedback and a supportive atmosphere where every child can improve at their own pace. We focus on effort, teamwork and enjoyment, because players who love the game keep playing it.
