Orange Ball Tennis Term: Rally, Play, Win!
Welcome to our 10-week Orange Ball programme, designed for young players ready to step up from Red and start playing on a bigger court with a bigger bounce. Each week blends skill-building with plenty of games, challenges and laughs, so players learn without even realising they’re working hard.
By the end of the term, your child will have a reliable set of strokes, a go-to serve, and the confidence to play and score a proper match.
What we’ll cover
Week 1: Forehand. Building a smooth, confident forehand through target games, rally challenges and team relays.
Week 2: Backhand. Finding the right grip and swing, with fun drills and partner games to make the backhand a weapon, not a worry.
Week 3: Serve. Learning a simple, repeatable serve, with target practice and serving contests to get those first serves in.
Week 4: Net Play. Volleys, reactions and quick hands. Expect lots of energy and some friendly net-rushing battles.
Week 5: Matchplay. Our first chance to put it all together with mini-matches, scoring and good sportsmanship.
Week 6: Tactics. Learning to think like a player: where to hit, when to change direction, and how to spot an opponent’s weakness.
Week 7: Attacking. Taking control of the point with aggressive play, approach shots and finishing at the net.
Week 8: Defending. Staying in the point under pressure with recovery shots, lobs and a resilient mindset.
Week 9: Trading. Learning to rally with purpose: building points, changing pace, and knowing when to attack or defend.
Week 10: Matchplay. A celebration of progress, with matches and games that show how far everyone has come.
Our approach
Every session is built around fun, game-based coaching. Players are active throughout, with small groups, positive feedback and a supportive atmosphere where every child can improve at their own pace. We focus on effort, teamwork and enjoyment, because players who love the game keep playing it.
