Yellow Ball 13u
Welcome to our 10-week Yellow Ball programme for under-13 players who are new to the full-size court or still building their foundations. With the standard ball, this is where players learn the key shots and game skills they need to rally, serve and play real matches. Every session combines clear, friendly coaching with games and challenges, so players pick up new skills while having fun.
By the end of the term, your child will have learned the core strokes, be able to start a point with a serve, and have the confidence to play and score a match.
What we’ll cover
Week 1: Forehand. Learning the topspin forehand, from grip and swing path to brushing up the back of the ball, through target games and rally challenges.
Week 2: Backhand. Learning a solid backhand, one or two-handed, with a focus on grip, balance and clean contact. We’ll also introduce the slice backhand.
Week 3: Serve. Learning how to serve step by step: grip, toss and swing, plus how to start a point with a reliable first serve. Includes serving contests and games.
Week 4: Net Play. Learning the volley and overhead, with simple footwork and fun doubles-style games to get players comfortable at the net.
Week 5: Matchplay. Learning how to play a match: scoring, serving and returning, court positions and good sportsmanship, through relaxed mini-matches.
Week 6: Tactics. Learning where to hit and why: aiming for space, using the full court and spotting an opponent’s weaker side.
Week 7: Attacking. Learning how to take control of a point with a good approach shot, moving forward and finishing at the net.
Week 8: Defending. Learning how to stay in the point under pressure with the lob, the slice and recovery shots, and how to move well to get balls back.
Week 9: Trading. Learning to rally with purpose: keeping the ball in play, changing height and direction, and knowing when to attack or defend.
Week 10: Matchplay. A celebration of progress, with matches and games that put everything we’ve learnt into action.
Our approach
Every session is built around engaging, game-based coaching. New skills are introduced in simple steps, then practised through games so players can see their progress. Groups are small, feedback is positive and the atmosphere is supportive, because players who enjoy the game keep playing it.
(please note, the Friday + Saturday sessions are only 9 weeks due to Good Friday)
